  21. The remote host is missing the patch for the advisory MDKSA-2003:029 (snort).

  24. A buffer overflow was discovered in the snort RPC normalization routines by
  25. ISS-XForce which can cause snort to execute arbitrary code embedded within
  26. sniffed network packets. The rpc_decode preprocessor is enabled by default. The
  27. snort developers have released version 1.9.1 to correct this behaviour; snort
  28. versions from 1.8 up to 1.9.0 are vulnerable.
  29. For those unable to upgrade, you can disable the rpc_decode preprocessor by
  30. commenting out the line (place a '#' character at the beginning of the line)
  31. that enables it in your snort.conf file:
